Sklenena louka (The Glass Meadow) has been dedicated for 12
years already to the production and promotion of non-commercial,
innovative and conceptual art of all genres or rather, in-between /
non- conventional categories. Glass Meadow activities are related to
its location, the sensitively reconstructed urban house close to the
city centre which its owners (
Alena Smidova a
Karel Seidl
- who are also patrons of Sklenena louka) had designed as a
multifunctional space with a café, bar, gallery, small shops, book
store, architect offices and service centres. The entire environment is
incredibly positive towards the creative arts. Not only is the place
very original in appearance, but there are on-going activities in
various parts of the complex as a result of the interaction between
cultures. Given Brno’s rich cultural heritage, it gives special flare
and magnetism to Glass Meadow performances which boasts performers from
all around the globe. There is an inclusive policy towards attracting a
wide local audience. Careful attention is paid to establishing support
from regional as well as national organisations for the arts, the
development of its’ profile and the enrichment of regional cultural
life. In addition to the organisation of cultural events and the
promotion of artists and musicians from all over the world — from
America to Japan, Sweden to South Africa - the Glass Meadow team:
Zdenek Plachy (director),
David Subik (producer, sound engeneer),
Lenka Placha
(manager) have been from the very beginning of their cooperation active
in creating their own projects. Several which took place at Sklenena
louka but also outdoor projects in specific locations around Brno (the
forest, quarry, autumn fields) or projects which were produced for
other theatres - National Theatre Prague, The Brno Centre of
Experimental Theatre, Brno City Theatre.
The Glass Meadow is also the meeting point for many different
artists, art lovers and intellectuals of all age groups, thus breaking
borders not only in art but in social life as well.
